The Stunning Wildlife in Baja California
My photography and travel tips for wildlife viewing

If you love exotic vacations, nature, and wildlife, then you have found the right place. Baja California is a complete paradise with countless offers for beach lovers, thirsty adventurers, and wanderlust souls.
The peninsula of Baja California stretches across millions of acres of protected areas. These include the open ocean, rugged islands, mangrove lagoons, and pristine beaches.
At present, there are 19 natural protected areas: 3 national parks, 2 flora and fauna protection areas, 4 biosphere reserves, and 10 spaces voluntarily destined for conservation.
Wild-coasts, pristine lagoons, coastal wetlands, high biodiversity, and abundance of terrestrial and marine wildlife — those are some of the numerous protected representatives of the peninsula that you will be acquainted with within a moment.
Osprey

Osprey is an easily recognized bird of prey. Though it is one of the world’s most widespread birds nowadays, it was at risk in the 1950s due to chemical pollutants such as DDT.
DDT is a pesticide very efficient in killing insects. However, problems accumulated as animals were unable to break down the ingested chemical.
Birds of prey, like the osprey, that ate other animals that had already absorbed DDT had more in their system, and their lives were at risk.
Luckily a movement was born, and DDT got banned in 1972. However, there are still environmental traces after its use that humanity is fighting.
The one place where you certainly will see osprey is around Ojo de Liebre and Guerrero Negro Lagoons that are spanning on the west coast. Artificial nesting sites are abundant there. Their creation is a consequence of the establishment of a salt production company that has deteriorated the pristine conditions of the vicinity.
